ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLIMATE RESILIENT YOUTH

Join Us in Transforming Kenya: The One Million Trees Challenge

Kenya is a land of breathtaking landscapes, from the lush highlands to the arid expanses of the north. Yet, beneath its beauty lies a pressing challenge: our tree cover stands at a mere 12.13%. In some counties like Marsabit and Mandera, the situation is even more alarming, with tree cover at just 2% and 3.6%, respectively. This shortage isn’t just a number; it’s a pressing environmental issue that affects us all.

The consequences of insufficient tree cover are profound. Our changing climate is evident in rising temperatures, increased carbon dioxide levels, soil erosion, and more frequent floods. Without trees, the very fabric of our environment is at risk.

But together, we can make a difference. That’s why I Choose Life Africa has launched the One Million Trees Challenge. This ambitious initiative aims to combat global warming, reduce carbon emissions, create job opportunities, and improve livelihoods across Kenya.

Here’s how we’re making it happen:

The Model County Approach

We’re selecting ten model counties based on their commitment and resources to lead this transformative initiative. Each chosen county will play a crucial role by:

  1. Providing a Dedicated Champion
  2. Partnering with Anchor Organizations
  3. Collaborating with Universities and TVETs
  4. Engaging Ten Model Schools
  5. Allocating Land

Spotlight on Bomet County

Imagine a thriving Bomet County, where ten model schools collaborate to plant 100,000 trees. With the help of 10,000 enthusiastic students, we’ll be planting a diverse range of trees, including Mango, Avocado, Orange, and other indigenous varieties. Each tree planted represents hope and a step towards healing our environment.

How You Can Make a Difference

You can be part of this monumental effort by adopting a tree for just KES 200. Your contribution will directly support the planting and nurturing of trees, turning barren lands into thriving green spaces.

Account Number: 6443250211

Every tree adopted brings us closer to a greener, more sustainable Kenya. Join us in our mission to transform our environment and secure a healthier future for generations to come.

Together, we can make Kenya lush, vibrant, and resilient. Will you answer the call to action? Adopt a tree today and become a part of this vital movement!

Key Initiatives:

  1. Climate Adaptation and Mitigation – Planting and Growing 1 Million Trees

By December 31, 2028, ICL will:

  • Mobilize 15 Community Forest Association (CFA) members per county per forest for rehabilitation.
  • Secure one public forest per county per year in 10 counties for rehabilitation.
  • Establish 2,000 demonstration tree nurseries (one per county).
  • Plant and grow 1,000,000 trees in 10 counties.
  • Conduct research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning on tree planting and growing.

  1. Promotion of Clean Energy – Transitioning 40,000 Motorbikes to Electric

To reduce CO2 emissions, ICL will transition 40,000 fossil fuel motorbikes to electric by December 31, 2028, through:
